Testing for HIV
Is the test for HIV accurate?
The test has an accuracy rate of 99.5% when taken after the recommended waiting period. Since it can take up to 3 months for antibodies to be present in the bloodstream, it is possible to be given a negative result if tested too early. A second test for individuals who receive negative results on their first test are recommended to retest to confirm their results.
